In a world in which the messages we get through social media divide us, it is critical that we come together and talk with each other face-to-face, as
human beings
neighbors
citizens
people who believe in the promise of the United States.
When we get to know each other, we will have a better understanding of one another and recognize our commonalities. Dividing messages do not allow dialogue; they perpetuate distrust, dislike, and disrespect. This is why face-to-face interaction is important. It helps us to see and visit with each other, establishing civil discourse and promoting civic engagement.
Regardless of whether you are a Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, or have no political affiliation, if you believe in the basic values of
non-violence
respect for all human beings
the United States Constitution
due process and following all laws in accordance with the Constitution
a United States that truly unites all who make up this country ("E pluribus unum!")
free and fair elections
and basic decency,
then, I invite you to show that we are all in this together by wearing a purple hat, beanie, or any other piece of purple clothing. Purple combines red and blue. It thus is a fitting symbol of togetherness.
This message asks that we be open to and invite dialogue with one another. We might not agree on every political or societal issue, and that is OK. However, we must come together and engage with one another. Dialogue has to be possible. Let's get together and talk about how we can create a society that benefits all . Let us share the values of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Authoritarians thrive on dividing people. Let's make sure they do not divide us. Let us show them that we, regardless of political affiliations, are in the majority, and that we can and will support each other. Let's get together as neighbors and fellow human beings, believing in the American Dream. Let's connect through civil dialogue.
